My New Hunt For The “Super Rare” Wilson Franks Baseball Cards

I will keep you posted on any of these finds as I progress in my search. The only thing stopping me as of now is the cost since they are so rare they will be pretty expensive in a decent condition or grade.

The 1954 Wilson Franks Baseball Card Set comprises 20 cards, each measuring 2-5/8" x 3-3/4" and bearing a resemblance to the 1954 Topps set. Noteworthy for their association with hot dogs in the Midwest during the 1950s, these cards are both highly sought-after and relatively rare. On the front of each card, a color-enhanced photo is showcased against a vibrant background, accompanied by the player's name, position, team, and the Wilson Franks product logo, all framed by a small white border. The reverse side features personal details, a career summary, and both 1953 and career statistics.

The 1954 Wilson Franks Baseball Card Set features numerous stars from the 1950s, with the Ted Williams card being particularly valuable. Due to the cards being in direct contact with meat during packaging, many of them exhibit grease stains.

Should I Start Building Sets?

I have never been much of a set builder, never! It seemed way to time consuming and tedious, then I grew up. 😀

It all changed as I got older and wanted to become more organized, I had goals, I wanted to cross off those checklists, and more. More than anything, the sense of completion is a new part of my life and it feels good.

This is why I have started building my first set in 44 years. It happens to be a hard set to build too, 1952 Topps Baseball… I know, so typical.

The sets I am building are really good looking cards, they have this art look to them that just attracts me. Mainly looking to build the first five years of Topps, 1952-1956. I am not building many sets, but just the ones I really enjoy and the ones which will be worth some good money for my kids some day.

Even if they send them to Greg Morris Cards later in life, it won’t matter. They can sell them by singles or by set, it won’t matter to me. I’ll make sure they know that too, so they don’t keep them together for any certain reason. My kids will be able to have a little bonus from dad’s collection, that’s all that matters.

Collections & Leads For You To Explore

Here’s how this works. I run special advertising all over the USA, specifically looking for card collections. I get some basic collection info from sellers and a email in order to connect you. I try to filter the junk out as much as possible and to be completely transparent it’s possible I have interest in some of the stuff that comes up. Realistically though, I can’t buy them all and I usually like to buy stuff that is local anyways. I try to stay within a 6-8 hour radius of my location at most in Eastern Iowa. I get good leads everywhere!! NY-CA

These FREE Leads below have not been seen by anyone else, they are FRESH and ready for you to explore. Most have came in within the last week.

2013 Iowa “Field of Dreams Find”

Eugene Calvin “E.C.” McCoid (March 13, 1900 - October 18, 1966), enamored by the quintessential American pastime since childhood, fondly recalled witnessing his cherished Chicago Cubs clinch consecutive World Series Championships in 1907 and 1908. Driven by his passion for the game, E.C. harbored dreams of chronicling a definitive history of the Cubs, leading him to immerse himself in extensive research in later years. An avid student of baseball, he aspired to document the careers of all professional players, extending beyond the major leagues. His journey began in 1914 when he subscribed to The Sporting News, through which he is believed to have acquired the cards showcased in this collection.

Although aware of the existence of these cards, Dave, E.C.'s descendant, initially lacked knowledge of their whereabouts. It wasn't until 1990 that he stumbled upon the cards in his attic, carefully preserving them in an album. Alongside the cards, a treasure trove emerged, including a vast collection of baseball periodicals and scorecards. Among these were guides dating as far back as 1864 and marked scorecards from 1910-1930, some featuring iconic figures such as Babe Ruth in left field and Wally Pipp and Lou Gehrig at first base.

Presenting a rare and impeccably preserved glimpse into the early 20th Century, this extraordinary collection makes its debut in the sports card hobby. Originating within 50 miles of Iowa City, where the legendary "Shoeless" Joe Jackson returned in W.P. Kinsella’s renowned novel, Mile High Card Company is honored to unveil the E.C. McCoid “Field of Dreams” Collection, straight from the heart of "where dreams come true."

Dang… This one hits harder being so close to home!

Make sure to Look for my email every Thursday morning!

Until then, I hope you find some great cards. Keep Hunting!

Sincerely,

Country @ Card Hunter Weekly
